Bhutan has recently implemented a significant reduction in its Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) tourist tax, cutting it by 50% for the next four years. Starting September 1, tourists visiting Bhutan will now be required to pay a reduced fee of US$100 per person per night, down from the previous rate of US$200 per person per night. These revised rates are set to remain in effect until August 31, 2027. This 50% reduction in SDF will also be extended to children, resulting in a reduced SDF rate of US$50 for individuals aged 6-12, while children under 6 will be exempt from the fee entirely. Furthermore, Bhutan will continue to offer a 24-hour SDF waiver for tourists staying in border towns, providing added flexibility for travelers.
